How are RF Coaxial Connectors Processed and Assembled?

After getting the Connector drawings, the machining center, like Kable-X, will select the appropriate machine tools to process the connector parts, including the center pin, outer conductor, insulator, etc. Different sizes of parts use different equipment. There are many kinds of machining center equipment, which can be classified into single-axis, multi-axis, single-knife or multi-knife machine tools according to the number of main working parts. According to the specific numerical control function of machine tools, they can be divided into ordinary machine tools, numerical control machine tools, machining centers and flexible manufacturing units, and intelligent production line machine tools.

In the machining center, copper bars of different sizes are sent in from one end of the machining equipment, and the needed parts come out. Standardized operation and strict dimensional tolerance control ensure the dimensional consistency. The processed parts are sent to electroplating workshop after post-treatment, quenching, cleaning, etc., which is the last step before the assembly of finished products.

With the increasing cost requirements, some new processes have been introduced into product processing besides mechanical processing. Aiming at the small-sized shell and central needle, the punching process can better adapt to batch production; Integrated injection molding realizes long-term mass production of insulators; Different from stamping, deep drawing process can provide more reliable mechanical structure, and at the same time ensure the advantages of die production, which is being selected by manufacturers. With the continuous progress of technology, it is believed that more new technologies will be introduced into the connector processing process in the future, which will inject vitality into the sustainable development of connectors.

At present, there are three mainstream assembly methods in connector assembly, namely, full manual assembly, semi-automatic assembly and full automatic assembly. Each assembly method has its own advantages, and manual assembly will not be eliminated. The manual assembly line is flexible, quick in response, suitable for short-term demand, and manual assembly is the most suitable way for small batch orders. Semi-automatic assembly has good compatibility, usually can meet the production of various products, and is suitable for the production with high labor intensity but discontinuous production cycle, which greatly reduces the labor intensity of workers and improves work efficiency. Fully automated assembly process has good consistency, stable and efficient output, and is suitable for long-term demand in large quantities. The cost of automated equipment directly determines whether the product is suitable for automated equipment.
